Microsoft Excel is able to identify the type of data you key into the worksheet. You don’t have to tell Microsoft Excel what the type of data is, the data will be differentiated and examined accordingly. Fundamentally the data consists of numbers and text, you can enter text as part of a formula to manage a complicated tabulation and calculation.
There are 4 types of data in Microsoft Excel 2007,
The first basic data is Text, which is alphabetical representation that could includes descriptions, sentence, and headings. For example “My name is Luis T”, will be identified in Microsoft Excel as Text, another example “There a 2 numbers”, will also be distinguished as Text.
The second basic and common type of data is Numbers. This type of data consists of numbers, which could be used to represent integers, prices, percentage and other numeric information. For example “123” is numbers, but “number 123” are considered as Text. Most tables are consist of numbers, and chart could only be plotted by numbers. Some of the numbers could includes comma, decimal points and maybe represented by currency symbol.
The third type of data is Dates and Times, date example ” 14-Mar-01″, “Mar 01”, “03-14-01” and “3-14”, which could also includes many other representations. “1:30:55 PM”, “13:30”, “1:30 PM”, “13:30:55” and “13:30:55 PM” are some example of times.
Boolean value is the forth type of data, it could only contains two information, TRUE and FALSE, it is not a commonly used type of data, but could be a useful tool when you need to use it on logical formula.
