The need of re-thinking one’s strategy in the online market is a webmaster’s worst nightmare. Unfortunately, there are times when this happens, so even though every web marketer and SEO specialist should do something to be prepared for this; many of them are only taking it in consideration as a last resort. The Panda Update launched by Google in the first quarter of 2011 affected over 12% of the existing websites, penalizing them for not having enough quality content or for showing up a spam appearance.
But wait; some will say: wasn’t the Search Engine Optimization about creating links, providing content in large quantity? Wasn’t it all about the high numbers as page rank, number of links and number of unique visitors? Well, no. Google’s main concern is to provide users with not good but excellent quality content, so it does everything possible in order to remove the low-quality elements from its top rankings.
Even with these false suppositions that many beginner SEO marketers have in mind regarding the way Google sees content, there are a few elements that had to be changed in the art of optimizing internet content, even though they were legitimate at some point. For example, there is the backlink structure optimization of a website.
Google Panda Update penalized content farming websites, which were the most dense places to find low-quality content in high quantities; many submitters only care about the links they can place inside the article, so they write in such manner that will fill the required number of words, without giving a second thought about the informational quality for the reader. Furthermore, many submitters used the same article for more than one content submission directory, affecting the quality even further.
Finally, we can tell that some veteran content developers and SEO specialists hadn’t much trouble when the Panda update was launched back in 2011. This happens because they had the experience of time and knew that Google sooner or later won’t tolerate low-quality content any longer; that is why, by perfecting their abilities in time, these people managed to bypass the penalty of the Panda algorithm change, providing quality content and improving or removing the already existing low-quality content.
Did you, as the owner and optimizer of your own blog or website, had to change your optimization techniques in order to stop falling on the Panda penalty? If yes, this doesn’t mean that the update in the algorithm fought against optimization and you were a victim; in fact, you were using the wrong techniques, or you focused less on giving a great reading experience and more on how to look and rank better in search engines.
